Online Experience B Reflection

Technology is very important because it has changed the way life is done every day. It has saved lives, changed the way we move, and how we entertain ourselves. Technology has drastically changed over the past five years because now we have touch screen computers, extremely fast smart phones, and much faster transportation. If technology continues to change how fast as it does now, in five years there is no limit of how far it can go.

Every day I use technology in school and if I did not have technology, school would be much harder than it already is. I use computers throughout the day, projectors, and watch movies to learn. I mainly use my phone and computers for my personal use because they are all that I need for information or entertainment.

I will use most of the tools I learned from Online Experience B because they are tools that I will need to use when I move onto college and the work place. Wikis and learning how to use Google Docs is a lifelong tool that I am glad that I learned. I will probably never blog again because that is not me. My favorite tool was using excel because there are so many things you can do with it and you will need to learn how to use it if you advance you education. My east favorite tool was screencasting because I really didn't see the point in doing it.

Screencast - How to make a Blog Post

For this screencast I used Screenr. After having used Screencast-O-Matic and Screenr, I prefer using Screenr. You had the option of logging in with your Google, Twitter, or Facebook account with Screenr which made it a lot easier to make an account and get your embed code. The options of Screenr and Screencast were almost identical, but the website made the difference. Screenr was much more user friendly and I liked it much more.

Screencast

A screencast is a program that allows you to record whatever you are doing on your computer. What I liked about creating one was that you know that it will help others in what you are trying to do. The thing I disliked about ti was that you have to be very careful in how you explain things or else the person will not be able to completely follow along with what your doing. This would be most helpful to someone that needs a quick tutorial on how to do something or someone who plans on making tutorials for a living.

Google Docs vs. Windows Live

After having used Windows Live and Google Docs, Google Docs is much easier to use and is much easier to navigate. Windows Live has many options to choose from, but does not have nearly as many options that Google Docs has to offer. Google Docs also is very organized by clicking on one pull down menu, you can see everything that Google Docs has to offer. Although Windows Live allows you to use the actual Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Google Docs has many other options that are just as good.

Technology Article - Smartphones, not computers, drive most Facebook use

Most people would believe that Facebook is mainly accessed through a computer, but recent studies have shown tht Facebook is used 81% of the time through the smartphone Facebook app. The people that run Facebook admit that since there are less people using the computer version that advertisements are not being seen by the public which makes Facebook and many of the companies on it lose business and overall money coming in is lower than usual. The facebook app does not show advertisements and Facebook is looking for a way to implement a way of putting advertisements on the page, but not making you become distracted by them.

After having completed the career cluster, the top choice for me was health sciences. Health sciences is actually what I was interested in, and includes theraputic services. Some jobs that fall into this category include planning, managing, and providing therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development. Many skills are needed to be in health sciences because you would be interacting with people and advising others on how to live life healthy. I do think that this category fits me perfectly because I want to go into the emdical field and help others when I move on into my career.

Google Docs is a free service offered by Google that stores data and allows you to share it with others easily. A wiki is a website that can be modified by many users to show information on many pages. Assistive technology is a type of technology that can vary to help a person perform simple tasks. Project Wrap-Up Assignment

What I liked about Google Docs is that it was very simple to use and everything was very easy to find. What I disliked about Google Docs is that my partner could edit what I was working on at the same time. For this assignment I did not like being able to do the same thing as my partner on one document because it would become slower if we both typed at the same time. They could improve their Google Docs by offering even more applications that you could create things on. I think the project turned out pretty well, but not as good as I would have liked it to be.

Technology Article

http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/22/technology/nokia-tele-tattoos/index.htm

Nokia has recently released the idea that they want to release a tattoo that would replace the mobile phones. The ink in the tattoo would include a ferromagnetic powder made into a specialty ink that would be tattooed into your skin. The ink would vibrate when a message or email would come in. Nokia also said that they are developing a less drastic item that would be a sticker like badge that would have the same concept.

Citation Tool Critique

While using EasyBib and Citation Machine for this project, I could easily identify that EasyBib was the easiest one to use for me. EasyBib was very simple and straightforward when citing a website or other item because all of their options were on the top and you did not have to search through the site. I also used Citation Machine for this project and although it was a decent website to use, I felt that it wasn't as user friendly as EasyBib was. Both websites are good for citing your work, but EasyBib is definitely the first choice for me in my opinion.

Online Safety

Cyberbullying has become a major issue in the United States. Numerous cases have been reported about teens and children commiting suicide after being a victim of cyberbullying. A new article was released about Alexis Pilkington, 17, who took her life after being taunted and called names on a
social networking site. After her death, the taunting continued on towards the family which made the grief worse. After her death, a bill is being put in place that makes cyberbullying a federal crime. My reaction to this article is shocked. I can't believe that she was not helped with this issue. She should of had help before she was pushed to the point of suicide. It is a good idea that a bill is being put into place that makes cyberbullying a federal crime.

Google

The new changes to Google are going to make a huge difference to what it is now. One of the main changes is that Google will now be able to go inside of your Gmail account and go through your emails to find ads that will pertain to you. Along with Google's access to your Gmail account, if you have an Anroid phone and are not signed into a Gmail acccount then you will not be able to access the marketplace. Included in the policy change is that Gmail, Calendar, Youtube, and Google searches will now have the same simplified policy that is easier to understand.

While researching for changes and similarities in Google's new policy, One website stuck out among others. The website explained how Google will now access user data and information and may use it for easier advertisements. It also explained how people were already upset with Google allowing advertisements into their Gmail, but now collecting data from emails.

In my opinion, I dont mind Google collecting data from my Gmail account. Google is a company and we use its services that they allow us to use for free. This policy was a long time coming, but people will always be upset with it. Google is trying to simplify the complicated web that they have created and if collecting user data is what they need to do, then they should.

A&M Records Vs. Napster

A&M Records Vs. Napster was a major case that took place in 2001. The case was about the illegal file sharing of MP3 music files. There were more than eighteen other plantiffs against Napster that wanted justice. The Northern District of California held Napster against infringement of copyrights held by companies in the music industry. This was the first major case against illegal file sharing in the music industry. Napster showed three main points in their argument that countered the accusations against them. In the end, the court agreed that Napster was drawing in users to illegally download copyrighted MP3 files. The judge offered that Napster be shut down until it reached 100 percent efficiency rate in removing copyrighted work. Napster was able to remove 99.4 percent of the copyrighted work, and was shut down due to not making the requirements. Soon after not meeting the requirements set by the judge, Napster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was forced to completely shut down.

Internet Safety

Internet safety is being safe and not giving out personal information to anyone or anything you do not know. There were many important things that I learned yesterday, but some of the most important things were using your common sense, not going to websites you are not sure of, and giving out personal information. I learned yesterday that there are many ways that you can get into trouble by using the internet. One of the best ways to stay safe on the internet is being smart with your searches and not doing anything that your parents would be ashamed of while on the internet.

Feed Readers

I recently worked on two different readers that both had pros and cons. Google Reader was one of the feed readers that we worked on and I found that it was the easiest of the two that I used. The other site that I looked at was Bloglines. Google Reader was much faster and was not bogged down with so many different sites that popped up when you clicked on a search. Google Reader also had many different options and it felt like it was very easy to use. Lastly, Google Reader also supplied pictures that helped visualize what you were searching for.
